Yale SOM Rankings Update
Business School Rankings
Among the organizations that rank MBA programs, we have decided to report to the Yale SOM community on five major rankings: Bloomberg BusinessWeek, The Economist, Financial Times, Forbes, and U.S. News & World Report.
Below you will find the most recent results and brief descriptions of their methodologies.

Indra K. Nooyi Dean, Yale School of Management
The Economist
July 2018
The Economist ranked the school’s MBA for Executives program 1st globally in its July 2018 ranking of executive MBA programs. In addition, The Economist ranked Yale SOM 11th globally in its October 2017 ranking of 100 full-time global MBA programs. Both rankings are based on opening of new career opportunities, personal development and educational experience, increase in salary, and potential to network.
U.S. News & World Report
March 2018
U.S. News & World Report has ranked Yale SOM 11th in its annual ranking of U.S. business schools. The ranking is based on opinion and statistical indicators collected in fall 2017. The opinion component includes a survey of participating business school deans and directors and a survey of participating MBA recruiters, which is weighted by recruiter responses from the previous two years. The statistical indicators include “inputs” such as GPA, GMAT/GRE scores, and acceptance rate, and “outputs” such as the salaries students command after graduation and the length of time it takes them to find jobs. Yale SOM has maintained the top position in the nonprofit specialty ranking.
Financial Times
January 2018
The Financial Times has ranked Yale SOM 15th globally, and 9th among U.S. schools, in its annual ranking of 100 full-time global MBA programs. This ranking is based on alumni career progression, school and program diversity, and idea generation.
Bloomberg BusinessWeek
November 2017
Bloomberg BusinessWeek has ranked Yale SOM 16th in its annual list of the top full-time U.S. MBA programs. Fifty percent of the ranking is based on the responses of graduating students and recruiters; 30% of the ranking is based on the responses of Yale SOM alumni. The remaining 20% of the ranking is divided evenly between job placement rate three months from graduation and starting compensation.
Forbes
September 2017
Forbes magazine has ranked Yale SOM 13th among major U.S. business schools based on the school’s “return on investment.” To calculate the ROI, Forbes surveyed graduates who received MBAs in 2010. Forbes compared their earnings in their first five years after business school to their opportunity cost (two years of forgone compensation, tuition, and required fees).
